Sculpture - Since 2024
This series is all about the middle.
The centre of the artwork, is in fact the middle of the sculptural process.
Hours of sanding, using higher and higher grit sandpaper, smooths the surface of the resin, but leaves on the surface of the sandpaper, a raw veining effect.
At the end of the process, the most violently veined sandpaper becomes the central feature of the artwork. Encased in the centre behind a pane of glass. Surrounded by the painterly gradient it created.
Great cosmic banalities

Inspired directly and in equal parts by renders of the space-time continuum and a Finish dishwashing tablet. These ‘things’, sit at either ends of the vast scale of human experience. On one end, there is the banal and humble and on the other, the grandiosity of the cosmos and the bewildering forces of time, matter, weight. And while the one end might not seem like much, its remarkable that us humans are even aware of the other. And have the pleasure to ponder it at all. It’s maybe not an accident that renders of the space-time continuum and Finish dishwashing tablet look similar after all.
A sort of grey
Sculpture - 2025
Together, the organic materials of the sculpture meet in an uneasy tension. The vibrant paua shell splits open the black and white of the friesian cow, as though an ancient époque splits open a black and white television.
These two materials are what you find a lot of in New Zealand. The paua shells, found along the coast line are native to these lonely islands in the South Pacific. Used in traditional Maori art, they often represent New Zealand, be it in traditional sculpture, or tourist gift shops. The friesian cow is imported, thanks to English colonialism. The black and white with the vibrant blues and greens of the paua, reveal a modern country in all it’s contradictions.
Afterimage
Glass sculpture - 2025
An afterimage, in science, is the impression of a vivid image in the eye, after the actual image is no longer there. Floating temporarily even after the original stimulus has passed. Fascinated by the middle of things, Afterimage the sculpture attempts to freeze a moment. Condensation on a glass, even after the liquid that caused the condensation, has been consumed.
Attention, Attention, Attention
Sculpture - 2022
The natural world is losing the battle for our attention. How often do we pay attention to the sparkle on the ocean, or the sun through trees?
‘Attention, Attention, Attention’ uses a man made material designed for grabbing attention (road sign sheeting) and recreates the sparkle in a permanent, industrial way. Attempting to pull our attention away from advertising and cultural media, and towards the abstract and mysterious. This sculpture was made during the European Artist Program residency run by Yellow Cube Gallery in Paris and R.A.R.O. Barcelona during the summer of 2022.
